The power of women in public relations

Now that we’re 48 hours past International Women’s Day, I can use our Universal Information Services’ news monitoring data to reflect on the #MakeItHappen issue. For years, equality for women in the workplace has been an ongoing battle. Although women have made tremendous strides fighting for equality, there’s still a lot to be done. With International Women’s Day in the rear-view mirror, it’s important to step back and understand what it means to be a working woman to a company.

According to the book Why Women Mean Business, women represent roughly 70% of the public relations profession, but only 15% of those are female managers. This is slightly unnerving since women now make up more than half of university graduates. Real talent is scarce and it’s time for companies to tap into the talent it already has – the female part.
